A good foundation is the start to any project…including your face. I hear people all the time complaining ‘my foundation doesn’t cover anything!’ Well, it’s not really suppose to - concealer is used to cover blemishes and redness. Foundation helps smooth out skin tone and provide a base for your concealer.
If you don’t love your makeup – then invest in new makeup! It’s simple. Make that your resolution! To provide a good foundation for your face coupled with a powerful concealer…enter 2012 fresh faced!

HMS Exclusive Interview with SELF magazine Fashion Director Evyan Metzner
HMS thought readers would like to hear the style tips from one of the hautest women in the business. Evyan is amazing, and has worked in the industry for 20+ years and travels all over the world (sometimes in a month) with some of the best photographers and celebrities (Beyonce, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Hudson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Carrie Underwood, Kristen Bell, Taylor Swift, and the list is endless). Her amazing staff shared with us that the coolest part about Evyan is that ‘she is like someone’s really amazing best friend who will help you find out what works for you (while looking fabulous)’.
Evyan’s career is divided between her work as the full time fashion director for SELF, along with styling for other notable magazines such as Teen Vogue, Vanity Fair, New York Magazine, and InStyle. She has helped launch major advertising campaigns for Estee Lauder, Eli Tahari, Lancome, John Frieda, and Victoria’s Secret. As I mentioned, she has worked with notable fashion photographers, among them Bruce Weber, Patrick Demarchelier, Annie Leibovitz, Carter Smith, Reagan Cameron, and Norman Jean Roy.
Read on to find out more about Evyan! We focused on the ‘boy trend’ featured in the Nov/Dec 2011 issue of SELF, tips on how to incorporate this look into your everyday wardrobe and much more!
Don’t forget to download the SELF iPad application too!

HMS: This issue’s (Nov/Dec 2011) fashion spread…gorgeous BTW!!…focuses on the ‘Boy Trend’ sprinkled with ladylike flare – when collaborating this shoot what did you look for specifically when styling the boy trend for women? What are your favorite ‘boy trend’ pieces and which to do you suggest are the easiest for people to incorporate into their everyday look? (and how)
EVYAN: I was looking for classic menswear shapes that were updated with their colors and then soft feminine pieces to mix in. Like a star blouse, with a tweed wide leg trouser. But the fact that it’s a red star blouse and there’s a blue line going through the tweed makes it more feminine and fun.
A tweed blazer is a great and versatile menswear piece that can dress up anything. You can wear it over a dress. Wear it with pants. I love to wear it with lightweight girly things underneath it.

HMS: Your favorite look from this issue’s fashion spread and why
EVYAN: My favorite look is the opening gnome photo look because it’s very flirty and feminine in the fact that the dress is made out of what men’s ties are made out of. And I love layering stripes with other patterns. And I love layers with a short car coat, which is a great alternative because it isn’t too bulky. You can wear tights with the look, or not. It’s very transitional. And I love the pop of leopard. What’s great about this look is that you can easily do this with some things you own already. Lots of different elements you can do. Even a little tweedy hat can change the whole outfit.

HMS: Celebrity you would love to dress / style
EVYAN: There are a few and the list is always growing. Kristen Stewart because I love the fact that she’s cool and edgy but not overdone. Rihanna because she’s so fun and brave. Michelle Obama – she’s so classy. I’d love to style Emma Watson because she’s so fresh. And dolly Parton because who wouldn’t want to style Dolly Parton.
HMS: Favorite fall 2011 fashion trend and tips on how to really rock-it (or them if more than one)
EVYAN: Bright colored pant like red or bright pant or jean. I love to wear color and you can keep everything else really simple while wearing a bright colored pant, but still look fresh and new. Its an instant energizer to whatever you’re wearing. And it’s available at tons of different price points.
HMS: Your style icon and why
EVYAN: Its a mix. Ali McGraw because she’s so down to earth beautiful. And Audrey Hepburn because she’s so classic.
HMS: Favorite designer and why
EVYAN: I really love a lot of designers. To name a few I would say, Marni, Dries Van Noten and Rebecca Taylor. Anyone that does a great pattern!
HMS: Your weekend style
EVYAN: My weekend style is jeans, some kind of little blazer like tweed or a bright color, and a striped shirt. Love Converse, but Pierre Hardy suede wedges if I want to look more dressed up. A colored scarf — either my Isabel Marant one or my J Crew star scarf.
HMS: Never leave home without
EVYAN: Bright colored handbag. Fitted blazer. Colored Scarf. RayBans. iphone.
HMS: Lusting after for Spring 2012
EVYAN: Manolo Blahnik neon pink sandals. And anything from Louis Vuitton’s confectionary collection.
