According to the WWD, Brooks Brothers is finally expanding into clothing for girls. Be watching for the line called ‘Fleece’ in about 15 stores in the U.S. and at least three internationally in fall of 2010.
Finally the sister to the boys’ collection is being launched! As reported by the WWD, the pieces are very much inspired by the boy collection and being designed by children’s wear designer Nikki Kule, best known for her own line ‘Kule’.

According to the blog Nouveau Cheap - the CMO (chief marketing officer) for Target had this to say – “…The $1 products will be packaged exclusively for Target stores in sleek black packaging.” Read the whole interview here.

I just read the most disturbing article from Nymag.com – it states that both Walmart and H&M literally THROW OUT all the unused clothing people do not purchase!
According to the Nymag.com article, “…But they want to make sure that, after they throw stuff out, people can’t wear or resell the clothes. So they destroy the items by cutting holes in them with machines. If they’re dealing with a pair of shoes, they go to the trouble of cutting the insoles so you can’t wear them. Puffy jackets are slashed across the body and the arms are cut off.”
I cannot explain how upsetting this article is to me. Not only because of how obvious and completely wasteful this practice is of both these huge entities, but because I really enjoy shopping at both Walmart and H&M - can we still feel good about supporting these stores??
The article also reported that the 34th Street H&M, in New York, discards the destroyed but otherwise perfectly good merchandise in trash bags behind the building and that Wal-Mart, in New York, has a contractor that dumps their destroyed unworn clothes in a space on 35th Street.
And finally the most compelling statement defining why the actions of these businesses are so obviously heedless, “Poor people who need clothes are freezing all over the city, but rather than donate unused goods, these stores are destroying them and treating them like garbage.”
