The Categories and Winners:
Best Runway Moment: Miranda Kerr
She’s no stranger to the runway, or high fashion for that matter, but when Miranda strutted down the Balenciaga Spring 2010 catwalk everyone did a double take. After a fair amount of investigation, it’s clear that it’s the Aussie model, but upon first glance the stick-straight hair and stone-cold stare certainly didn’t evoke the dimple Kerr everyone knows so well.
Model as Muse: Lara Stone
Everyone has their year—12 months when it seems like the world is on your side and nothing can go wrong. Lara enjoyed the riches of 2009 by posing for Louis Vuitton, opening up to Vogue, becoming besties with Karl Lagerfeld, and enjoying the title of Model of the Year from British Vogue.
Model Mom: Natalia Vodianova
Though Natalia keeps up her fashion appearance—sitting front row at fashion shows, posing for campaigns and editorials, and designing her own line for Etam—she’s never too far from her doting family. Husband Justin Portman regularly holds her hand down the red carpet as the pair are beyond photogenic, while the model mommy dotes on her adoring children: Lucas Alexander, Neva, and Viktor.
Model Entrepreneur: Heidi Klum
If you’re not a model lover or even a fashion enthusiast, you still know who Heidi’s is. And along with her illustrious fashion career, the household name has built her own brand based on her position as the host of Project Runway, meaning we’ll be seeing more of our favorite Kluminator.
Breakout Model: Karlie Kloss
For most 17-year-olds, it’s enough to simply attend high school and wonder which boy has a crush on you. But for Karlie, Vogue’s darling of 2009, the regular worries were paired with her demanding work schedule. And this model certainly has the ability to diversify her interests, keeping the greats like Grace Coddington pleased while still enjoying her childhood.
Biggest Do-Gooder: Naomi Campbell
Well-known for her charity initiatives, this year has seen Naomi through many different causes and good deeds. From her work with Sarah Brown, the British Prime Minister’s wife, to her selfless donation of her Hermès Birkin bag, to her collaboration with Louis Vuitton for the White Ribbon Alliance, she proved that doing good for others is the ultimate gift.
Comeback Model: Jamie Bochert
Not everyone can take a break from the runway and return with major fanfare, but not everyone is as distinctive as Jamie. After Marc Jacobs chose her to open his Spring 2009 show, the model was back on the scene, posing for Gucci’s Fall ‘09 ad, Rodarte’s lookbook for their Target collaboration, both Lanvin and Marc Jacobs’ Spring 2010 ads, and even Steven Meisel’s Vogue Italia TwitPic-obsessed issue.
Model We Miss: Gemma Ward
Though the past few years have seen Gemma transition into acting with a major role in The Black Balloon and an appearance as Dollface in The Strangers, we’re hoping for a return to fashion for Gemma come 2010. Rumors abounded recently that she’d given up the industry for good, but, as we always say, never believe a rumor. Gemma, we want you back on the runways!
Best Model Collaboration: Kate Moss
Discontent to let the designers have all the fun, Kate decided to enjoy her moment as cohost for the 2009 Costume Institute Gala just a bit more. The model turned designer worked with Stephen Jones to dream up a turban set to match her silver creation by Marc Jacobs—which we’re still talking about today.

Designers are carrying over the fun trend of fur we saw this fall and winter into spring 2010. According to the WWD, white mink, mongolian lamb, fox and many more are being shown as capelets, shawls and cropped jackets over some gorgeous evening wear this spring.
