This Kentucky native and University of Kentucky alumni grew up on a horse farm in South Portsmouth, Kentucky.  As her website states, podiatry was in her family.  She is the granddaughter of Dr. Arthur O. Kelly, a Podiatrist in Ohio and attended her grandfather’s Alma matter, the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. She completed her first two years of her podiatric surgical residency at the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs in Mountain Home, Tennessee.  Now back in Lexington, Kentucky with her husband, she has opened her own practice, Lexington Podiatry, at Saint Joseph Hospital East.

I had a chance to talk with Dr. Nicole to find out more about her, her specialty, and what she enjoys outside of work! Please read on to find out more about this fashionable local Doc!…and if you have any issues with your pretty piggy-toes – then might I suggest a visit!

Favorite vacation spot?
Buzios, Brazil. It’s about an hour outside of Rio de Janeiro, away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy spots. It’s a sleepy town and a local secret.

Favorite restaurant?
Locally, Bella Notte. The combination of a low key ambiance with great, affordable food can’t be beat. The best Italian food in town. Also, I am a former Regatta employee…and their seafood is the best in Lexington. Finally, Sal’s filet can’t be beat.

Cocktail of choice?
Hands down, a great glass of full-bodied red wine, Kenwood Jack London Merlot is a favorite.

Favorite gift to give?
I love to create gift baskets with all the goodies he or she likes. A big hit with my guy friends is a basket with a bottle of Woodford Reserve, a cigar, and a Maxim magazine.

Style Icon?
Audrey Hepburn, her look is timeless. She always dressed very sheek and classy.

Favorite designer?
I really don’t have one. I buy classic pieces and purchase trendy accessories to stay in style.

Top of your style / wardrobe wish list?
I don’t really have a wardrobe wish list. I usually just stumble upon a piece somewhere and buy it (within reason). With regard to a wish list…I think I’d opt for a trip to Greece or Spain.

What is in your beauty bag?
Mascara and lip gloss are always in there.

Listening to at the moment?
I try to stay up to date with music, and I enjoy all varieties of music. However, I always find myself listening to classics like Sinatra in the evening or some latin music on a warm sunny day.

Reading at the moment?
Honestly, I read so much medical literature, I rarely read any noteworthy novels. I do enjoy browsing magazines such as Food & Wine, Conde Naste Traveler or People.

Line of shoes you recommend the most (any occasion shoe; running, evening sandal)?
I completely understand wanting to balance fashion with comfort. I tend to wear a good supporting athletic shoe (such as Adidas) with a custom arch support most of the time I’m doing any extended periods of standing or running. For the fashion forward moments, I love Enzo Angiolini shoes or boots. For summer, the sandal of choice for BOTH fashion and comfort are OneSole. I get so many compliments from my patients, I have actually started carrying them in my office.

What motivates you the most? Who inspires you?
I’m not going to lie. I work to live, I don’t live to work. Fortunately, I happen to love what I do, so the work days go by fast. But, my next trip motivates me. Traveling is my first passion. I love to go experience the food, history, culture and people of new countries. Different people inspire me in different ways. My family inspires me to keep striving for success…just in order to keep up with them. My husband and my friends inspire me to truly take time and relax and enjoy life…in order to remember why I work hard. I believe a healthy balance is critical to a happy life.

What do you love most about what you do?
It’s very satisfying to have to the ability to truly help people. In the field of Podiatry, I am fortunate enough to treat and cure people, or at least get them walking in the right direction (no pun intended) after the first visit.
