Le Cheval Bleu was born out of a true love for all things stylish! Having lived in New York City most of her life and, of course, absolutely LOVING the fact she had access to the best of the best in fashion! - moving to Lexington was quite a change. Debbie moved to Kentucky because she met the love of her life, who just so happened to be from the Bluegrass and worked in the thoroughbred horse business. It seemed like a world away from her fast paced, chic Manhattan lifestyle. Now settled in, she admits that she loves it here!…the people, the horses, the bluegrass, and simply the way of life. However, there was one issue Debbie had with her new found home - the lack of unique designer clothing, jewelry, and gifts that she was spoiled with in the NYC.
So…enter…Le Cheval Bleu, 2006, opened in the picturesque town of Midway with the goal of bringing a little big, NY, city style to the country. Luckily, she says, ’the horsey community is quite cosmopolitan.’ –

Favorite vacation spot?
Oh boy, so tough to say. I absolutely LOVE the Sandy Lane in Barbados for over the top luxury. I am also infatuated with the island of Santorini in Greece. Amazing!
Favorite restaurant?
My husband and I adore La Goulue in NYC… the perfect French bistro. We go there every time we are there for a long lunch that has, on occasion, spilled over into dinner.
Cocktail of choice?
A well made Grey Goose gimlet served up …especially at the Carlyle hotel in New York.
Favorite gift to give?
A gift that makes the recipient’s eyes light up…something that they really wanted and thought they’d never get. I’ve had the privilege of giving a couple of those kinds of gifts and it just feels so good.
Favorite personal item?
My beat up super comfy Uggs
Style Icon?
Love the way Kate Moss puts things together. I also think Charlize Theron always seems to get it right on the red carpet.
Favorite designer?
Dolce & Gabbana for suits and Roberto Cavalli for a va va voom dressHow do you define style? Any style advice?
Invest in the classics. Spend a bit more on the perfect black dress pants that will carry you through a couple of years. I also suggest splurging on shoes, purses and coats…maybe because they are my favorite things to buy:)
Top of your style/wardrobe wish list?
I am always on the lookout for a new Chanel or Balanciaga purse
What’s in your beauty bag?
Where do I begin….Stila Illuminating foundation, Nars blush/bronzer combo in Orgasm/Laguna, Lancome Definicils mascara, Shu Uemura eyelash curler, Make Up Forever gloss, Nars lipstick in Dolce Vita, IS Clinical Youth Complex, and my trusty hot pink Tweezerman tweezers…a must!
How do you define true luxury?
Flying by private jet.
Favorite mantra?
I went to school in Italy for a year and noticed how the people there work to live…not vice versa. When it was time for lunch that was it. They didn’t skip lunch to get more work done in their day. They went home to their family or friends and enjoyed their time with them. I really try to not let my work interfere with my happiness at home. My goal is not to have my shop grow into 3 shops. My goal is to have a successful shop that allows me to enjoy the other parts of my life. Money isn’t everything.
What motivates you the most? Who inspires you?
When a client comes into my boutique and finds the perfect dress or top and gets really excited…that motivates me. It makes me want to keep providing those things that make people feel good. People who are very busy professionally yet still find time to help others inspire me.
Any advice for young women dreaming of starting their own business?
It is really one small step at a time. If you look at all you have to do you will be completely overwhelmed. Complete a task and move straight to the next one. Before you know it you will be on your way. Just don’t look back. Oh, and of course it helps if you have a lot of extra cash lying around:)
The Hautemomma Toddy
Made especially for Hautemommastuff by The Bourbon Review!
Add the following ingredients to a shaker with ice and shake well:
2 oz. iced tea (unsweet)
1 ½ oz. bourbon
1 tablespoon of honey
Squeeze 1 wedge of lemon
After shaking add a splash of soda water and strain into rocks glass with ice (or into a martini glass without ice if you choose. Drink should have a nice frothiness on top that looks nice.)
Garnish with slice of lemon
Enjoy!
