Miracle Oil

October 24, 2008

a.k.a. Moroccan Oil

oilbottle.jpg

Not quite life-changing…but about as close as someone with unruly curly hair can get!  About a tablespoonful of this applied to wet hair before styling is nothing short of transformative!  This miracle not only provdes true humidity-resistant shine & smoothness, it also speeds drying time, softens & protects hair from UV rays, and nourishes the scalp.   I read about this online, tried it out at my last blow-out & will never be without it.  Addicted.

I purchased mine at Alure Salon & Day Spa for about $30.

They work as assistants to Elle’s Fashion News Director, Anne Slowey, a demanding but well-respected fashion icon. The competitors carry out an assistant task and a fashion editorial assignment in each episode.”

Let’s talk haute mommas!
HMS loves stories like this one – we fell in love with fitness!  Amanda and Edie, both mothers of two, decided to invest in what has become such a haute local workout – the Pure Barre Technique.  Both saw such incredible results, just two months, they felt compelled to make it their job to share this technique with others.  Not only were these ladies busy at home with children, Edie worked as a trust officer at Fifth Third Bank, a campaign manager of United Way of the Bluegrass, and a teacher for TAI Preschool.  Amanda has worked with her family home building business where she was a decorator selections coordinator, bookkeeper, and Realtor.  Both graduated from local colleges, Amanda from Transylvania and Edie from Centre, and both wanted a great total body workout that wasn’t boring!…enter Pure Barre!
If you haven’t been to the studio – run, don’t walk!  You will get an intense total body workout that will make you feel great!  Don’t be intimidated!  There is a first time for everything! HMS had a chance to talk with Amanda and Edie about other things in life they consider…haute…like Pure Barre!  Read their answers below!

How do you define the Pure Barre technique? and how did you get involved?
The Pure Barre Technique is an intense, non-impact and exhilarating workout that will quickly and safely transform your body.  This 60 minute class fuses Lotte Berk exercises, Pilates movements, Yoga poses and light weight work to create a challenging workout that produces amazing results.  In creating a body of equal strength, flexibility and balance, we follow each strengthening section with stretching to create toned long lean muscle, without the bulk.  It is an intelligent exercise program that is heart healthy, works the entire body, is low impact, and will improve your bone density and range of motion.

In addition to our signature Pure Barre Technique, we offer Sculptilates, Yoga, Abs and Cardio fitness classes, too.
We were both clients of Pure Barre when it came up for sale in May 2007.  We were such true believers in the Technique, because we had seen it work so effectively for each of us!  It was a quick and easy decision to invest in the studio and the Pure Barre Technique!  We have been having a total blast ever since we started working together :: it’s one of the best ventures either one of us have ever done (next to our beautiful children, of course).

Any advice to young women dreaming of starting a business?
Being self-employed is truly a wonderful and rewarding challenge, but, yes, it is a challenge, too.  You can truly pour your heart and beliefs into a meaningful venture … you will feel great joy in your successes and a personal pain in your failures.  You learn a lot about your limitations, but you are able to be patient enough to learn from your mistakes.  Running your own business takes 110% of your time/thoughts, but if you are following your dream then it is worth it.
