Sofia in a Can

February 17, 2008

Speaking of Sofia Coppola…

sofiacoppolawinecan.png

Sofia 4-pack mini Blanc de Blanc

“Born from a celebration of love, Sofia Blanc de Blancs began as a gift from a father to his daughter.”

Described as “delicately fruity and delightfully refreshing, Sofia Blanc de Blancs is a rare blend of Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscat.  The crisp flavors of apples and pears are made brighter by a hint of citrus and honeysuckle.  Elegant in character, this wine is lightly textured and vibrant through the finish.”

Perfect for travel, picnics, or spontaneous celebrations!

Check out the fun website for Sofia Minis.

Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton

February 17, 2008

marc_jacobs_louis_vuitton_01.jpg

This documentary, directed by muse Sofia Coppola, follows Jacobs through the creative process of designing for his eponymous collection in NYC and his work as Creative Director of Louis Vuitton.

This is the first time cameras have been allowed into the inner sanctums of his studio.  Watch as he cuts fabric on the floor and makes art out of macaroons as he jokes with his staff in the relaxed and warm loft workspace.  Hear what his idol, artist Elizabeth Peyton has to say, and why filmmaker Loïc Prigent calls him the “bucker of trends par excellence”.

Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton airs on Monday on the Sundance Channel, and is available this month on On-Demand (go to “the free spot”/”sundance”).

Glam Grammy Look

February 13, 2008

One of our favorite looks from the Grammys was definitely Hautemomma Faith Hill’s.  From her hair to her gown to her jewelry, she just seemed to ooze elegance and glamour.

faith_hill.png

For her hair, Oscar Blandi created a non-traditional chignon – “We wanted a clean and polished look to compliment Faith’s Valentino gown.  I used an off-centered chignon that had a natural mess to it, with more curls and lots of definition.  She looked absolutely beautiful.” – Oscar Blandi

Follow these steps to recreate the look:

I started by spraying my Jasmine Protein Mist on the hair, to just lightly re-wet the hair.  I sprayed Wave Enhancing Spray to the roots to give it volume and then blew the hair dry.  I used a 1 ½ inch curling iron and then pinned the curls, letting the hair set for 10 minutes.  I then gathered the hair in a low, off center pony tail and began pinning curls.  I added more body and texture to the bottom curls, in order to add thickness and body to the chignon.  As I got closer to the last few pieces, I kept them smooth and finished sculpting the chignon.  To finish the look, I used a little Seta to smooth over the hair and any fly-away pieces.” – Oscar Blandi

oscarblandi.jpgI use his Trattamento Di Jasmine Smoothing Hair Treatment twice a week as a deep conditioner…it really helps decrease frizz and add shine.

All available at Sephora.

HMS Interview-Danielle Bouharoun

February 11, 2008

 smallerdanielle.jpg

Expectant Hautemomma, Danielle, works in the finance world in Nashville, but travels throughout the country to attend sports and music events. Because Nashville’s nickname is “Music City”, she attends all of the major music award shows both in Nashville, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. A fixture on the charity circuit, she gets to observe fashion trends throughout the country and has even bought maternity black tie attire for her past and current pregnancy.

Danielle is always fabulous, never frumpy…and has to dress for every imaginable occasion (which she does with style and grace).  Read on to learn more about Danielle and her secrets to staying chic during pregnancy….

Favorite Getaway:  I love to combine shopping with fine dining and spa services.  I’ve had fun girls’ trips to the Doral in Miami, the Biltmore in Arizona, the Four Seasons in Chicago, and the Venetian in Las Vegas.  Luckily, my  husband likes these things as well, so we’ve had nice trips to the Ritz-Carlton in Naples and the Atlantis in the Bahamas.

Favorite Restaurant: No matter what city you’re in, the Palm and Morton’s are always consistent and they treat you well if they know you are a regular.  Become known in the city you love, and they’ll take care of you when you visit.

Favorite Gift to Give:  I like to give gifts from Thistle Farms for hostess gifts and girlfriend gifts!  Thistle Farms is a non-profit business operated by the women of Magdalene ( a two-year residential treatment program for women in Nashville with a history of prostitution and drug addiction).   By hand, the women create natural bath & body products that are as kind to the environment as they are to the body.    All proceeds  go back into supporting the residents of Magdalene.

Favorite Hotel:  No matter what city you’re in, you can’t go wrong with the Ritz-Carlton.  On two recent trips to NYC, I’ve stayed at the Helmsley (loved the location) and the Loews Regency.  Both were very “old New York” and I saw several notables in both lobbies.

What’s in Your Beauty Bag?  I love Laura Mercier foundation primer and tinted moisturizer.  They are very lightweight and natural.  I combine that with Laura Mercier bronzer and lip gloss.  Add Shu uemura eyeshadow and mascara and you’ve got the perfect natural look!

Cocktail of Choice:  When I can drink (I’m currently 17 weeks pregnant), I love a chilled Margarita Martini.  My husband and I also enjoy a good glass of French Bordeaux.

Style Advice:   Don’t try to wear what you see on celebrities in a certain season unless you can pull it off.  Go with what works for your body that is also age appropriate and stick with it.  Also, buy a few quality items each year that will be key to your wardrobe and timeless.  Invest in quality purses and shoes.  My husband gave me a Burberry coat for Christmas two years ago and I know it will last for many years.  When you have a fabulous bag or shoes, it can dress up any outfit.

What is Style?  Being confident yet feminine in your work attire, dressing elegantly yet accentuating your assets for cocktail attire, and looking put together (not sloppy) for your casual, running around outfits.

Top of Style Wishlist?  Once I have the baby, and can start buying normal clothes again, I’d love to get a Tory Burch tunic and a fabulous new dress from the Tadashi Collection.  I’ve become a fan of the new St. John line as well since they’ve updated their look and hired Angelina Jolie as their spokesmodel.  The clothes travel beautifully and they have a Python Print suit this Spring  that I’ve got on my wishlist.  I also have my eye on a purse from the Gucci Spring collection (but I think I’ll focus on baby furniture instead).

Who has influenced your life and career the most?  Several people have inspired me.  First, my mother showed me how passion for what you do can help you enjoy your work and look at making the world a better place.  She helped me learn that a career is more than how much you earn on your paycheck.  Second, Becca Stevens, the founder of Magdalene and Thistle Farms in Nashville.  Not only is she a full-time Priest at St. Augustine’s Chapel, but she is a wife and mother to three great boys.  She has a knack for juggling her ministry, her personal life as well as her community involvement while always making time for her friends.

Best Thing About Maternity Fashion/Beauty:  It is easier now than in the past to still be trendy while wearing maternity clothes.  No more “tent dresses” from the 80s and 90s – we can now wear designer maternity jeans and great tops!  We also have a variety of  organic bath and beauty products (I’ve found a line called Eminence from Hungary at my Day Spa and love it!)

Biggest Challenge in Maternity Fashion/Beauty and How to Overcome It:  Be careful when buying the trendier things…The maternity fashions you see on J-Lo and Halle Berry  are custom made for them by the design houses and hard to find unless you spend a lot of $$$.  I also learned the hard way (story is too embarassing to mention) that a pregnant woman should not wear a wrap dress.

Project Posh

February 8, 2008

A few weeks ago during dinner with the girls at Bellini’s, we learned a secret.

A friend of ours is a PA working on Project Runway.  We couldn’t take the suspense anymore, and this pal finally broke down and spilled about the final contestants.

Today was the show, and as rumored, Victoria Beckham was guest judge.

posh_proj_runway.jpg     season4judges.jpg

All 5 contestants who remain after the show that aired this week presented their looks from inside the tents at Bryant Park (although they’re not all finalists).

Here are a few highlights:
