Dragonfly Children’s-

October 31, 2007

One of the best things about Dragonfly is the large, darling “fenced in” area full of toys for the kids to play in while Momma shops in peace.   Genius!

October 30, 2007

Jane Scott Hodges
Classically Couture, Entrepreneur, Traveler and one Stylish Hautemomma!

Leontine Linens
www.leontinelinens.com

If you have had the pleasure of meeting Jane Scott, founder of Leontine Linens, then you would agree with our ‘Classically Couture’ description.   As a dedicated entrepreneur, she founded the company while searching for trousseau linens, shortly after becoming engaged, in New Orleans.  The company website skillfully displays the fabrics and many gorgeous examples of this high-end product without even posting a swatch.  The main idea behind Leontine’s gorgeous custom made pieces is to, as Jane Scott states, “…live with heirlooms.”  This Lexington native, ensures her domestically made pieces embody superior European linen quality…and they do.  Leontine has received media mentions in magazines such as Southern Accents, Traditional Home, Cottage Living, Domino, Elle Decor, New York Magazine, In Style Weddings…just to name a few….!

Jane Scott’s demand for quality, style, knowledge and traditionalism (for the most part) have all played a large role in the success of her company.  Let us not forget to mention the support of her husband, Philip, who is also her business partner.  We honestly don’t know how she does it all; extensive travel, thriving business, children and family.   HMS loves to honor Haute women and we know you can clearly see why Jane Scott Hodges is worthy of the HMS HauteSpot!

Read on to find out more about Jane Scott and some things she finds….haute!

Jane Scott also recently held a luncheon in NYC at Bergdorf’s – Click here to view a few pics of her gorgeous table!

Favorite vacation spot?
New Orleans

Favorite restaurant (local or not)?
Clancy’s in New Orleans and Bistro La Belle in Midway, KY

Favorite hotel (local or not)?
Don’t care! Seriously, I don’t have a favorite.  I would rather indulge in shopping, dining and finding out other interesting things cities have to offer.

Favorite gift to give?
Jo Malone products – great gift packaging

Cocktail of Choice?
Anything with Mount Gay Rum!

Style Icon?
Coco Chanel

Favorite designer?
St. Laurent

How do you define style? Any style Advice?
Style is whatever your comfort level is – you really evolve into your look by the nature of what works best for and on you.  You have to know where you can shop and where you cannot!  You also have to know who you are and be comfortable with it.  Style Advice:  ACCESSORIES, ACCESSORIES! My favorite personal accessory is an antique watch fob I wear around my neck with an intaglio.

What is in your beauty bag?
Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer, Smith’s Rosebud Lip Salve, Emergen-C drink mix (white) no sugar 32 mineral / citrus flavor

Impulse of the moment?
Green patent Tahari trench!
(previous impulse was the Michael Kors camel cashmere cape coat she got recently in NYC!….HMS loves Michael)

Favorite mantra?
You are the master of your fate.
The way you get through your day is your choice no one else can do it for you.
Your life is what you make of it!

Your favorite personal item?
GOYARD hand bag with handpainted monogram in orange!

Who has influenced your life and career the most? Why?
My husband Philip and his constant support!
I could not do what I do without him.  He believed in my business before I did.

If you could give today’s young women advice on their future careers, what would you tell them?
Find your passion, follow it and rely on your instincts.  Instincts are what God has given you.  Also find mentors that you admire and that support you.  Women supporting women is the most incredible network you can find!  If you find people that support you and can teach you along the way, that is the way to go.  If you believe in something, love it and are willing to devote time and energy to it, then it is a passion, so again follow your instincts, maximize them and make it yours.

Best received advice?
From some women in New Orleans - business women – you have to believe what some people tell you and you have to be willing to listen and take things in, observe and learn from women that are elegant and successful.  They probably did what they are doing, or achieved their goals, by respecting, listening and observing those who have gone before them….so pay attention!

Facebook is…haute!

October 29, 2007

Okay so HMS is addicted to Facebook.  I know some of you are saying…’why?’

 fbook

Create an account and you will find out why quickly.  Plus we have had a ton of people find Hautemommastuff via Facebook…so that is cool!

You have to read this blog entry from one of our friends regarding – How Much are You Worth on Facebook?…yes they calculate your worth!  Don’t you just love the Internet!  You are calculated by # of friends, photos etc….activity basically.

Facebook alone is worth billions and billions…and it’s no wonder.  Facebook seriously is the best networking application there is – businesses need to get a clue and get facebook!

HMS Carpet One Party was….Haute!

October 29, 2007

hms carpet one gals

Thanks to the awesome Patterson Family at Carpet One, the amazing staff at The Corman Marketplace-J.Stuart, Dwayne and Jeremy, Tastefully Simple’s lovely hostess Theresa McFarland and all of our HAUTE guests it was one fun evening!

Guest took a chance at over 10 raffle items, that included gorgeous area rugs and runners, sipped wine, nibbled on cheeses, veggies and delicious samples from Tastefully Simple - including the Key Lime Cheese Ball, Beer Bread, Yummy Potato Soup and more….needless to say it was a very enjoyable evening!

More excitement ensued when The Corman Marketplace dynamic trio burst into a Christmas decoration brawl….well not really, but to get everyone’s attention, and it worked, they started tearing apart their gorgeously decorated Christmas tree by throwing the adornments/decorations all over the showroom floor.  They taught us quickly that you don’t have to be seriously particular regarding placement to make a beautiful tree or an arrangement.  Their tips, ideas, honest feedback, wit and creativity held everyone’s attention.    They told us two HAUTE colors this Christmas season are Green (the almost fluorescent green or ‘umpa-lumpa green’, as the Corman men refer to it) and chocolate brown!

It was a great time and we hope to work more with all of the great vendors that participated!  We thank all of our guests too and hope you all come to more HMS parties.
